How Much Battery Life Do I Have Left-Introduction,Need and Test

Page view

Consumer electronics like mobile phones, devices and laptops that use backup batteries have become very much like man’s best friends. We are so close to them that we go everywhere with them by our side. And we get to use them so often that we forget that there is need to know if the battery life is good or not.

If you do not want your lovely devices to disappoint you at any point in time, then you need to be alert and informed about your battery status. After reading this post, you can tell how much of a life is left in your battery.

How much battery do I have left on my laptop? Some computer geeks love to keep tabs on the battery life of their laptops, whereas the others just don’t care enough to bother. One way or the other you need to know how much life you have in your laptop battery. Knowing your battery status will help you redefine how you use the laptop. That is because a bad battery will not promise high performance when it is made to run too many tasks. So the better the battery, the more processes it can conveniently run. But then, how do you know the state of your battery?

It will be wrong and unethical in the computer world for you to be an avid system user and not have an idea of your laptop’s battery life. That is because there are several ways through which it can be done.

You can identify the status of your laptop battery by simply clicking on the battery icon that is displayed on your Windows notification area at the lower right hand of the screen. If you click on it, it’s going to show you a couple of information regarding the battery status. You can easily tell if your battery is still good after viewing the window that will pop. The approach is practically the same for all Windows OS PCs. But if you are using a Mac, you might need to do it a bit differently.

For Mac users, the menu bar that holds the battery icon is situated atop the screen. You click on it, and it will display the status of the battery. If it is draining or charging, and how much time will be needed to complete the process, you will see everything. There are equally command line approaches you can take if you love the black screen kind of life.

How do I know when my phone needs a new battery? You cannot just wake up one morning and discover that your battery has gone bad. Batteries are not designed that way. There are indications, like warning signs that tell you your battery is going bad. Unfortunately, most people don’t pay any attention to such warnings. Of all the indications you might notice, the one that seem to be most obvious is the quick draining out of the battery

A bad phone battery drains out much faster when compared to its counterpart. If you used to use your battery for a day without charging it, and now you can’t use it for half that time without seriously looking for where to charge, you need to start thinking of how to get a new battery. However, you can’t rely on that alone to know when to get a new battery because there are other factors like a bad update or even bad app that can cause your battery to drain out much faster. So you have to be doubly sure about this before concluding that your battery is bad.

Another possible sign that your battery is bad is the fact that it never charges up to 100%. Even if you choose to leave it plugged to the charger forever, that is your business – it will not charge to its fullest! When your battery starts to behave that way, it is time to suspect the battery.

While taking much longer than usual to charge to 100% is bad for batteries, it is also not good for a battery to charge to 100% much sooner than it usually did. Either way, it is just as bad a sign that the battery will no longer serve its purpose.

Plus, when you physically observe your battery, and notice it to be swelling, you have to stop using that battery right away.

Can I test a car battery to see how much life is left? This article is not just going to talk about phones and laptop batteries. If you are here to know whether it is time to pick up a new car battery, you are just in time for the conversation. Car batteries are about the trickiest when it comes to knowing their battery life. You can look at a car battery and think it is still normal, but unknown to you it as good as dead.

There are voltage brackets that makes it easy for you to indicate if the battery is still good. When you test a 2V battery with a voltmeter, the reading you get is what will determine whether the car battery is good or not.

A healthy 2V battery can read up to 2.3V or more when you measure the voltage coming out with a voltmeter. But if you do the measurement and you get something like 1.9V or lower, it is a bad sign for that car battery. Merely looking at it, the difference between 2.2 and 1.9 doesn’t look like much. However, it is a great deal in the battery world.

If it’s a 12V battery, it starts to read 11.4 or less when it is faulty. Therefore, you cannot know a faulty battery by merely looking at it. Instead, you can have it tested with a voltmeter to ascertain its true condition.

ConclusionThe idea of using consumer electronics like phones, laptops, or even car battery without stopping for a second to know how much life it has is not cool at all. Make efforts to check your batter health every once in a while. You can adopt any of the tips that have been mentioned above.
