The discharged batteries are first charged (6h) after which the gas voltage (2.35 to 2.4 V / cell) is reached (charge capacity of 80%), the charger automatically switches to the buffer charge and the maintenance charge, respectively. A compensating charger is the slowest type of battery charger. A battery can be left on a compensating charger indefinitely.
They have a lower maximum power capacity and take longer to charge the battery. But these are suitable for maintenance charges. These can be used for anything from a small motorcycle to a tractor.

Also, as a very minor annoyance, some models require that we permanently mount an adapter on our battery. Some chargers allow DC-DC connection and therefore can also be connected to another car battery. Another option is to remove the car battery and charge it at home, but we would have the same original problem again in the case of having a modern car.
