  Batteries have been around for many years, helping us get power in portable devices. And there are different variations designed for specific uses.

  One of the most common types and perhaps most reliable is the lead crystal. These are batteries that can be charged faster and perform better than AGM batteries. They have similar features to Lithium deep-cycle cells but are much cheaper.

  Many people have been asking about these batteries over the past few years. Most want to know if they are good batteries and how to charge them.

  Manufacturers like Redarc agree that these batteries are becoming more and more popular. This guide will discuss what crystal cell batteries are, what makes them unique, and how you can use one.

  In terms of price, no battery technology represents great value than lead crystal batteries. Consider their life cycle versus cost, and Deep Cycle AGM batteries stand no chance.

  Think of the remarkable life cycle of 6000 cycles at 20% depth of discharge, and you have a long-lasting battery. It promises 3800 cycles at 50% and 1400 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. You may never find another battery that performs this good at their price range.

  What is a lead crystal battery?

  A lead crystal battery is a unique battery type that carries several special features. It is defined by a nearly solid-state electrolyte that solves most of the problems associated with conventional batteries. You can discharge them deeper, and they will still work. Also, you can cycle them often and still hold their long lifespan. They can withstand extreme temperatures too.

  The AGM battery was the first type of lead-acid battery to be produced. And then, the lead crystal design team started a mission to eliminate all the major issues they had. They started by using a crystalline silicon dioxide electrolyte instead of the traditional acid/water, making a new lead-acid crystal technology that would work much better.

  The electrolyte in these batteries does not retain the liquid state. It crystallizes after the first charge so that there is no liquid. This leads to minimal evaporation or sulphuration, and there is no liquid to heat up when you are charging or discharging. And that is what gives them a long life span.

  Features of lead-acid crystal batteries

  Eco-friendly

  The first and main reason for coming up with crystal batteries was to reduce the effect of batteries on the environment. These batteries are rated to be very good, but you can only understand this if you know the details.

  They don’t contain antimony or cadmium. Also, sulfuric acid is less than 5%, which makes them more reliable. They are designed to give clean usage.

  Betta Batteries Hong Kong, the manufacturer of lead crystal batteries, states that these batteries are much safer. They offer an 80% reduction in harmful chemicals. They do not reveal the technology behind the batteries, but many users agree they are safer.

  These batteries are also much heavier, weighing around 10% heavier than same-range SLA or AGM batteries. You will not have a problem traveling with them since they are safer to transport, safe to handle, and are a good low fire risk.

  With low gassing from these batteries, you have not needed special ventilation or cooling. Also, they can be charged at 0-degree Celsius and operate between -5 and 50-degrees Celsius.

  Low self-discharge rates when not in use means you can store them much longer and still find their operation. With 25 Degrees Celsius ambient temperature, the battery can keep 80% of capacity after a one-year shelf-life.

  Since the batteries can cope better with deeper discharge and accept a faster charge, users can pick smaller amp-hour capacity batteries for quick applications. It makes it easy to find a suitable solution for any work.

  Crystal Cell Battery Ingredients

  Crystal cell batteries are designed to withstand most of the working pressure other batteries cannot handle. Working under extreme heat and better handling of charge/discharge rates are features that make batteries last longer.

  The technology behind these batteries is protected. That means the manufacturers do not reveal how to make them, making it hard to know their ingredients.

  However, the common materials used in their construction include:

  One of the most common questions we have met over the years is whether one can make a crystal cell battery at home. Whereas this is possible, you may not find the required ingredients readily available.

  Some users say you will need:

  Solid magnesium rods

  Copper pipe cup

  Potassium chloride

  Alum

  Sodium, tetraborate

  Magnesium sulfate.

  You can mix them up and come up with a homemade crystal power cell. Remember that this is not what you get from commercial batteries.
