Bushnell Rangefinder Battery- Kind, Cycle Life and Changing

Page view

If you've ever played or watched golf, you are familiar with a rangefinder. A rangefinder is an electronic device used to measure the observer's distance to the target. The process is termed as ranging.

Golfers use a Bushnell rangefinder to locate objects they are aiming for. It enables them to know the correct distance of the golf ball. Accuracy is what you get when you use a Bushnell rangefinder. Bushnell rangefinders come designed with JOLT technology. This feature alerts the user by vibrating once the device is locked on the target. The Bushnell rangefinders have gained popularity in the market; thus, most golfers use them.

Besides, the rangefinder emits invisible infrared energy pulses that are eye-safe. It is equipped with an advanced microprocessor, which gives accurate readings. It measures the time it takes for the energy pulses to move from the rangefinder to the target and back to the rangefinder.

Before the error of rangefinders, golfers had to count steps between posts and then guess the distance of the flag. With the introduction of Bushnell rangefinders, many golfers have embraced it since it saves time and guarantees accuracy.

A Bushnell rangefinder comes with its battery. Most Bushnell rangefinders use lithium batteries. There are two types, namely CR2 and CR123A. The batteries have different lifespan depending on the usage.

What kind of battery does Bushnell rangefinder use?

The Bushnell range finder batteries are of two kinds, namely CR2 and CR123A lithium batteries.

The CR123A lithium batteries have dimensions of 34.5 x 17 mm or 2/3A cell size. The voltage is 3V. These features make them the right choice for the Bushnell rangefinder.

Also, they are primary batteries. A primary battery means it is designed to be used once and thrown away. It is not rechargeable by electricity; therefore, it cannot be reused like secondary cells.

The CR123A Bushnell battery has information related to the size and chemistry of the battery. The appreciation CR denotes the use of lithium chemistry, especially LiMnO2.

Following that is the number 23A, which refers to the size of the battery. In this case, the CR123A is 2/3 the length of a standard A-size battery.

The CR2 Bushnell battery is also non-rechargeable. The design features are listed below:

  • Nominal voltage- 3V
  • Typical voltage- 3.2-3.3 V
  • Nominal internal Impedance- 0.3 ohm
  • Terminals- Flat, recessed negative terminal, nickel-plated steel.
  • Operating temperature- -20 degrees to 75 degrees Celsius
  • Low internal resistance
  • Dimensions- 15.6mm x 27 mm

The CR2 Bushnell battery is also called CR-2 or CR2L.

How long does a rangefinder battery last?

The lifespan of any battery is of concern to users. All batteries tend to wear and reduce performance over time. Battery life depends on how often the Bushnell rangefinder is used. The more the device is used, the lower the battery life will be. The Bushnell battery is designed for a long shelf life of up to 9 years.

The lifespan also varies depending on the voltage specification of the Bushnell battery as highlighted below:

  • 6-volt battery- 1 to 3 months
  • 3-volt Lithium battery- 1 to 3 months
  • 6-volt alkaline battery- 1 to 3 months
  • 9-volt battery- 2 to 3 months
  • 3-volt CR2 lithium battery- 3 to 5 months
  • 12-volt alkaline battery- 3 to 5 months

The lifespan of a Bushnell battery is determined by:

  • The average depth of discharge
  • Frequency of usage
  • Average temperature
  • Storage state and condition
  • Amount of monitoring and maintenance conducted.

To ensure an extended Bushnell battery life, follow the following guidelines:

  • Periodically check the voltage of your battery. Temperature and other factors may affect battery performance; thus, monitoring the battery voltage is vital.
  • Do not try to recharge the Bushnell battery. Bushnell batteries are not rechargeable, and the battery manufacturer does not recommend recharging them. If their performance is too low for your Bushnell rangefinder operation, you need to change the battery.
  • Prevent the lithium battery from leaking. Leakages occur when Bushnell batteries are stored in hot or icy environments.
  • Store your Bushnell battery in a dry environment. Moisture can damage the battery.
  • When storing backup batteries, ensure you don't mix them with used alkaline batteries; otherwise, they will be prone to chemical attacks.
  • Keep extra batteries if you know you will be playing golf during the cold weather. The battery life is significantly reduced. Having backup batteries will save you time during the game.

How do you change the batteries in your Bushnell rangefinder?

It is recommended to replace your Bushnell battery every 12 months. Changing the battery is comfortable even during a round of golf. Replacement is done when the low battery indicator appears. The Bushnell low battery indicator is visible in the display of the Bushnell rangefinder.

To change the Bushnell battery, remove the battery cap by lifting the battery door and then rotating counterclockwise. Then, insert the CR-2 3-volt lithium battery into the positive compartment end first. When you are sure that the battery is well-positioned, replace the battery cap.

Caution should be taken not to insert the battery wrongly. By this, I mean to ensure the Bushnell battery's positive terminal is connected to the negative terminal of the Bushnell rangefinder. The consequence of this is that the rangefinder will not work. This leads to time wastage opening the cap again, especially if the golf sport is ongoing.

Conclusion

Many golfers are finding the Bushnell rangefinders amusing. It saves time and guarantees accuracy. The two kinds of Bushnell batteries are readily available and are cheap. Care must be taken on these batteries to have an extended lifespan.

As you care for the battery, also maintain your Bushnell rangefinder. Ensure that the rangefinder lenses are clean by blowing away any dust or debris on the lens. Use a soft lens brush.

The most fantastic thing about the Bushnell rangefinder is that the last reading does not need to be cleared before ranging another target. You need to aim the new target using the display reticle, depress the power button, and hold until the new reading is displayed.

If you need to purchase a new Bushnell rangefinder battery, contact the battery manufacturers or visit a recognized store.
