Battery Connector Types: Introduction and Types
There are different kinds of battery connector types, especially for RC even when the battery is LiPo. Just what is a battery connector, and what are the different types of battery connectors? Find out in this article!
What is a battery connector?
The battery connection is also known as a battery terminal. The terminal is some kind of clamping device. Its purpose is to secure the connection between the two ends of the wiring or to a power supply. In the context of automobiles, the term "battery terminals" is commonly used.
They're made of metals that conduct a lot of electricity. The stability of the electronics is determined by the quality of these components. They can oxidize due to their nature, which exposes them to moisture on a regular basis.
When selecting a new set of terminals, keep in mind the shape of the battery connectors. The bulk of vehicle batteries sold in CIS countries have cone-shaped connectors. A flat terminal will have a smaller contact area in this case. A circuit break happens as a result of the oxidized chemical.
On the connectors, some batteries include a bolt clamp (options for trucks) or a screw (standard common in North America). This is important to remember while looking for a car on American websites.
A special adapter for terminals or self-locking modifications can be purchased if a driver acquires a car with a non-standard battery connection.
Battery Connector Types LiPo
LiPo batteries of RC vehicles also have connectors of their own. Some examples of their connectors are:
Servo Plugs Connectors
Another great RC battery connection option is servo plug connectors. These plugs can carry a load of around 3 amps, but you can go up to 6 amps if you want to go even higher. It should, however, only last a few minutes. It's a fantastic idea to make your own servo connections. Your nice acts may enable you to save money for it.
When used as a power connector, servo connections have three pins, but only two of them are utilised. Only the "+" pin in the middle and the "-" pin on the outside ground pin will be used. On the outside edge, the other signal pin will be left alone. This is why you will only notice two red and black wires when utilizing servo connectors for the power socket.
It's unclear where this type of small RC battery connector came from. Although there are many clones of the Amass XT 30 connectors on the market, their capabilities do not match those of the original Amass XT 30 connectors. To tell the original connectors from from the counterfeit, look for the Amass name etched on the right side. The original Amass XT 30 connectors are a little costly for you. These connectors can carry a 30 amp load and, if necessary, may be raised to 40 amps.
Heat shrink is necessary to insulate them. Because the pins on these RC battery connectors are nylon, you won't have to worry about them scorching or loosening while soldering wires.
The lesser cousins of the EC3 and EC5 connector types are EC2 connections. It can take up to 30 amps of current and up to 20 amps of current. Only bullet pins with a diameter of 2mm can be used in this connection.
It varies from the XT kind in that it does not require heat shrink insulation. Wires solder onto pins connected to the case in this manner, which is identical to EC3 and EC5. It may just cool down due to the hidden solder connection within the connector shell.
They can't be changed or reused because they're snapped into the case. It's a lot easier to connect and disconnect than the EC3 and EC5 connections.
Battery Connector Types RC
In order to know the battery connector for the RC vehicle, it is mandatory for us to know the batteries used for the device. Here are some of the devices usually used for RC vehicles:
●Alkaline battery - often found in AA batteries and is used in transmitters, television remote controls, and other electronic equipment.
●Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) - Rechargeable with a memory effect, but not especially eco-friendly.
●NiMH (nickname for nickel metal hydride) - a kind of nickel metal hydride. It's rechargeable (and can be topped up) and easy to use.
●LiPo batteries - have a higher energy density, lower weights, a more consistent and powerful discharge, a shorter lifespan (than NiMH), are more volatile than other solutions, and require smart chargers.
The bulk of the lower-end models will include a cheap NiMH battery. Higher-end models (especially those that are LiPo ready) typically do not include batteries or chargers, allowing consumers to re-use their existing gear or purchase items that are suited to their specific needs.
RC Car Battery Connector Types
There are all kinds of connectors for Type RC cars. Here are some of them:
This is the most common battery connector, and the majority of NiMH batteries use it. These (sometimes translucent) white connectors include a lever that allows them to be unlocked before being pulled apart. They're keyed to make installation easier, but it's possible to force connections, so pay attention to polarity (connecting the positive to the positive and vice versa) and wire color identification. They're not designed for high-current applications like huge burst rate LiPo batteries, and if you use them for that, they'll overheat.
These high-current connectors are popular among drone pilots since they're simple to use and keyed to prevent erroneous connections.
Molex Picoblade Connector
These small two-pin connectors may be found on batteries for micro drones and HPI Q32 models. They're designed to operate with low-current chargers like USB chargers. Be cautious while connecting these batteries since the small plugs may be squeezed together the wrong way around.
JST RCY Connector
These small, low-current, thin-walled connections are often found within transmitters and are perfect for attaching rechargeable battery packs instead of AA batteries.
On multi-cell batteries, these (typically white) multi-pin connectors provide communication to each cell terminal inside the battery for voltage monitoring and adjustment. This allows the charger to balance the battery pack by draining a specific cell. Because each cell has one wire plus a negative, a 3S battery balancing plug will have four pins. It is important to connect this connector to the charger while balancing charging, which is often overlooked by beginners. This low-current connection is on the list because it may be used to charge the battery by some chargers.
